Novig is the most interesting platform we’ve reviewed that we can’t yet fully recommend. The pitch is real: peer-to-peer sports trading with zero commission and zero vig, an excellent app (4.7★ on iOS), and pricing that’s genuinely better than any sportsbook. The company claims 43% of its users are profitable — unaudited, but directionally believable given there’s no house edge to overcome.

The problem is what Novig is today: a sweepstakes product. You buy Novig Coins, trade with promotional Novig Cash, and redeem winnings through sweepstakes rules — with no federal fund protections behind any of it. That’s about to change: the CFTC designated Novig’s exchange entity as a contract market on June 16, 2026, and a regulated all-50-states launch is planned by end of summer. When that happens, this review gets rewritten. Until then, we score what exists.

The CFTC Pivot: Why This Score Has a Short Shelf Life

Novig’s history is a series of regulatory reinventions. It launched in October 2023 as a licensed betting exchange in Colorado, exited within six months, relaunched as a sweepstakes in September 2024, and in January 2026 applied for federal designation as a contract market. The CFTC approved Ludlow Exchange, LLC on June 16, 2026 — one of the fastest designations in the agency’s history, five days after rival ProphetX got its own approval.

Novig says the regulated exchange will replace the sweepstakes model by end of summer 2026, covering all 50 states at age 21+. Notably, Ludlow is not pursuing its own clearinghouse registration, unlike Kalshi, ProphetX, and Crypto.com’s exchange — how clearing is handled remains to be seen. When the regulated product launches, the regulatory score (currently the biggest drag) changes materially, and we’ll rescore the platform top to bottom.

Regulation and Fund Safety — 4.5 / 10

Today’s product is a sweepstakes. Your purchased coins and winnings are ledger entries backed by the company, not federally segregated customer funds. Novig is well-capitalized — $75M Series B led by Pantera Capital in February 2026 at a $500M valuation, over $105M raised in total — which reduces solvency risk but doesn’t substitute for regulation.

The state record adds friction: an Arizona cease-and-desist in August 2025, an exit from New Jersey ahead of that state’s sweepstakes ban, and exits from Connecticut and Montana. None of this is unusual for sweepstakes operators in 2025–2026, but it explains the 16 excluded states. The June 2026 CFTC designation is the credibility event — it just hasn’t reached users yet.

Market Selection — 5.0 / 10

Sports only, but deep within sports: NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, MLB, NHL, WNBA, soccer (including markets on all 104 World Cup 2026 games), golf, tennis, MMA, boxing, NASCAR, and esports. Trade types cover moneylines, spreads, totals, player props, futures, parlays, and live in-play trading. No politics, no economics, no culture — if you want anything beyond sports, this isn’t your platform.

Fees — 8.5 / 10

The core claim holds up: no commission, no vig. You trade peer-to-peer at whatever price the market sets, using a Make/Take mechanic — accept posted odds or post your own price and wait for a match. For a sports trader used to paying a sportsbook’s built-in 4–8% hold, the pricing improvement is real and large.

The honest caveat: in markets where organic liquidity is thin, Novig seeds liquidity itself, and an effective 1–4% spread can be embedded in those prices. Major-game moneylines trade tight; obscure props less so. Redemptions carry no standard fee, though terms reserve the right to charge processing fees.

Liquidity and Execution — 6.5 / 10

Over $5 billion in cumulative volume with 10x growth during 2025, and the order book shows dollar liquidity at each price level — real transparency that OG and Fanatics don’t offer. Depth concentrates in major US sports; expect wider effective spreads on niche markets. One structural limitation: matched positions lock until settlement. There’s no cash-out or early exit on the sweepstakes product.

User Experience — 8.0 / 10

The strongest consumer product in the sports-only group: 4.7★ on iOS across ~2,800 ratings, native apps plus web, clean order flow, and a visible book. Novig also states it doesn’t limit winning players — a genuine differentiator from sportsbooks, and one it shares with the exchange model generally. Android lags iOS (~3.8★) with performance complaints.

Deposits and Redemptions — 6.5 / 10 (deposits), 5.0 / 10 (withdrawals)

Coin packages run $5–$5,000 via Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Trustly, and Aeropay. On the way out: $20 minimum redemption, 1x playthrough on bonus cash, first redemption up to ~7 days, then ~2 business days, primarily via Trustly. Daily redemption caps apply (reported around $10,000/day). The playthrough requirement and first-withdrawal delay are standard sweepstakes mechanics — and exactly the kind of friction the CFTC exchange should eliminate.

Good fit: Sports traders in Novig’s 34 states who want sportsbook-beating prices today and are comfortable with sweepstakes mechanics; price-sensitive bettors tired of paying vig; anyone wanting to learn exchange-style trading with small stakes.

Look elsewhere if: You want federal fund protections now (Kalshi or ProphetX), you want non-sports markets, or you’re in an excluded state — which includes four of the five most populous.
